Building Teams

A team is more than having people who want to see your vision accomplished: it is the group of people that are responsible for doing the work that will allow it to be accomplished.  These are the people who have committed to being a part of achieving the dream that a leader has.   Each of them has a special role to play and a special thing they are able to do.  It is essential that leaders build teams that have the ability to understand their vision and accomplish the mission.  The team has to be able to work together synergistically toward their goals.  In this course, will will discuss team dynamics and the strategies each leader needs to use to leverage the power of their team.

session 01

CRAFTING THE WORK

The first responsibility of all leaders when it comes to leading others is to be clear on the work that needs to be done to accomplish the vision.  The work is the means for the vision to be accomplished and needs to be thought out and planned in order to know who should be a part of the endeavor.  The work needs to also be something the team can accomplish and will be able to grow through.  When I say grow through I mean being able to develop their skills and abilities through doing the work they are offered.  Going over the details and measuring the extent of the work will prove to be invaluable to every leader.  This class will go over the various parts of the work and layout a solid process for crafting the work the team is going to engage in.

PICKING THE TEAM

One of the most important things each leader will have to do is create a team to help them accomplish their goals and reach their visions.  Picking the right people can make or break any venture.  This involves an ability to both understand what types of skills and personalities can do the work as well as the right attitudes and character to create chemistry.  The leader will also have to ask themselves if the people they are working with are teachable, "leadable", and accountable.  In this course, we talk about how leaders can create a team that is compatible with their style and methodology in getting the work done.  They will be able to also identify problem areas and pitfalls in selecting people for their team.

CASTING THE VISION AND SETTING THE MISSION

The vision and the mission of the leader is the fire and guiding force of the leader for those who are following them.  It allows them to see where they are going and where they are.  It also allows them to see what needs to be done to move toward the vision.  Communicating their vision and mission with clarity and frequency is important for steering the team toward accomplishing goals to achieve success.  Every team is different and needs to hear these elements in different ways.  Learning how to communicate the specifics to your team is the only way to get them working effectively and efficiently.  This class will help each leader discover ways to communicate their vision and mission in creative and effective ways.

session 04

ALIGNING INDIVIDUAL ABILITIES WITH TEAM GOALS

The reason anyone should be on your team is because they have abilities that will allow you to reach your goals.  The difficult part is that those abilities belong to them.  After getting them on board with the vision and mission, a leader needs to get those they lead to give their best self to the mission.  They have to identify the abilities the individual has and where it can play a vital part in accomplishing their goals.  Making sure the right people are taking care of the right work is essential to move smoothly toward those goals.  In this class, you will learn how to match individual abilities, skills, and talents with the team goals so that each person is working in the right area.

session 05

TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK

Teamwork is how the dream is going to become a reality.  There are very few things as beautiful as people working together in harmony and moving together as one toward their goals.  It is an amazing sight to see when it is achieved.  In this class, we will cover the dynamics for creating synergy.  Once a leader knows what synergy is and has a blueprint for achieving it, they can begin to encourage their team into the actions, attitudes, and behaviors that promote teamwork.  Each person on the team will have a better understanding of what their responsibility is toward the team and not just their individual responsibility for getting the work done.  One of their main goals will be completing the work as a team.  They will survey their actions in light of what is good for the team and begin to have desire to be a team player.

session 06

CONFIDENCE IN ONE ANOTHER

When a team has confidence in each other they are dangerous.  They can complement one another and know how to utilize the abilities of each person on the team.  They are aware of who is good at what and they make room for them.  Leaders must look for ways to showcase the work of their team members.  This will allow each person to be identified for their special ability and why they are on the team.  Leaders must also offer additional training for those who are struggling to meet goals.  This will increase the trust that their teammates have in them because they will see them becoming more and more competent.  In this class, we will go over ways to strengthen the confidence each team member has in one another.  We also go over strategies for instilling confidence in each person.  The leader of a team must also communicate their confidence in their team.  This will give them courage to venture out and take ownership of the work and the vision.

session 07

DEALING WITH CONFLICT

Every team will have conflict!  There will be conflict within the team.  There will be conflict from the outside.   Learning to deal with this conflict will make all the difference between success and failure.  Conflict resolution is the Kung Fu of leadership.  Conflict resolution is more than solving problems: it is dealing with root of the problems.  Many times it requires the leader to understand the people involved and to deal with the heart issues that are at the problems core.  Overcoming objections and dealing with the team's emotions is essential for maintaining momentum and achieving breakthroughs.  In this class, we will learn to identify the root of conflicts and how to address them in a way that will disarm the arguments.  We will also share how to get your team to be involved in resolving conflicts.

session 08

WINNING/SUCCEEDING 

Winning isn't easy.  It requires a variety of different things to achieve it.  Becoming a winning team is even more difficult because their are so more things that need to be accomplished with more people.  But the payoff is even bigger.  Learning to win is critical to building the morale of the team.  Each leader must learn what it takes to win and pass that on to their team.  The more you win the more you get used to winning and it becomes a type of momentum that helps the team easily move pass obstacles.  In this course, we will cover how to create a winning mentality and a culture of winning.
