 LEADERSHIP CORE TRAINING

Peak Performance

The ability to accomplish what you have planned is probably the most important aspect of your leadership.  After all, people are following you because you have a vision of how things can be different.  You have to communicate this vision and now they are on board helping you accomplish it, but at the end of the day you as the leader are going to be held responsible for the outcome.  Learning how to perform at your peak and getting your team to perform at their peak is critical to your success.  In this course, we are going to go over what it takes to do the kind of work that allows you to do things you never thought were possible.  We will go over the physics of performance and you will learn a way to help your teams think differently about performance.  You will be able to create a culture where performance isn't an elusive thing.

Lesson Plan

session 01

DEFINING PEAK PERFORMANCE

We all know that it isn't just enough to do the work that we have to do, we must do it well.  We need to excel at what we do in order to achieve the goals that will allow us to live our dreams.  One definition of performance is the action or process of carrying out or accomplishing an action, task, or function.  It is an action, task, or operation seen in terms of how successfully it was performed.  It is the accomplishment of a given task measured against preset known standards of accuracy, completeness, speed, and beauty.  In this class, we will cover why peak performance is important and how it can be achieved.

session 02

DELEGATING RESPONSIBILITY

Delegating responsibility to get things done is a major part of being successful in any venture.  Making sure the right people are responsible is critical to the outcome of every leader's work.  A leader has to know a person's level of competency, commitment, and the readiness they possess to determine if they can handle the responsibility they are being given.  Even if the person was hired for a duty and possess the adequate skills, their are important factors to consider because the leader will be at the mercy of that person's ability to do the work and handle the things that could arise as result of the work.  In this class, we will look at the factors that are associated with a person's ability to be responsible.  We will also look at how to delegate.

session 03

SETTING THE STANDARD: DEVELOPING THE METRICS

It is important to set the type of standards that challenge people to operate at the highest level of their abilities.  It is equally important to understand things like peak times for peak performance and the other factors that allow people to perform at a peak level.  Setting the standard for work is about measuring what needs to be done in a given time with a certain amount of resources in a specific place or environment.  It is also about understanding the people who are getting the work done and creating a system that fuels their strengths and positions them in the work so they can be successful.  An accurate ability to measure and create metrics can be developed from this dynamic system.  In this class, we will cover those perimeters and develop a process for understanding the input and output dynamics that contribute to peak performance and production.

session 04

MEASURING READINESS

Knowing when people are ready to engage certain parts of the work is critical to advancing without a hitch.  Each leader must be able to measure the readiness of their team and the individuals on the team.  They have to be able to accurately measure their own readiness and the readiness of the organizations they lead.  There are several factors that can help measure readiness.  In this class, we will look at these different factors and how you can observe and measure them and how to grow your readiness for a specific course of action.

session 05

TRAINING AND EQUIPPING

Having a workforce that is competent is one of the most important factors in readiness.  When a leader knows their people are competent to perform a task, they have confidence in them.  Training and equipping the workforce is essential to making sure they are current in their knowledge and sharp in their skill.  Developing various training programs and furnishing them with the equipment they need to accomplish their goals will make the difference between being able to achieve their goals and meeting the standards.  In this class, we cover the importance of training and equipping the workforce.  We will also cover how to create training courses and checklists to ensure the workforce is equipped.

session 06

PERFORMANCE AND PRACTICE

Releasing the workforce to do the work is where it all starts to happen.  The vision is being realized and the mission is being engaged through the work.  Each leader must have a way for each person to do what they are there to do.  Clearing the path for people to get things done is essential to having an efficient workforce.  This includes having the necessary supplies, organizing the tasks, and putting the right people together.  Another factor that can increase the success of the team's performance is including times of practice where people can learn and relearn various competencies that are needed to perform at high levels.  It is also a time to discuss strategies and how to implement them into the work.  In this class, we talk about how each leader can help their teams and groups perform at higher levels.

Duration: 1 hour

session 07

KEEPING SCORE

Using the metrics as well as well as the achievements of the team will help them know where they are in the work.  It will give them vital information about how to adjust their actions to better align with the goals and standards they have been given.  The more intimate they are with the details of work the more they will be able to be responsible for the outcome and aware of the contributing factors in that outcome.  They will also be able to encourage and hold the other people on their team and group accountable for their work.  In this class, we will cover the areas of how to keep track of the results of the work being done.  We will also cover how to use it to empower the workforce to take ownership of what is being produced.

session 08

AFFIRMATION AND CELEBRATION

Encouragement and affirmation are powerful forces for moving people forward and strengthening them in the work they are doing.  It allows them to be connected with the energy and success of the work.  It also allows them to see themselves as an important part of not only the work but the success.  Celebrating the milestones and advancements infuses the work with excitement and joy and makes the journey a positive experience.  It also gives people something to hold on to in the difficult moments when things aren't going as planned.  In this class, we cover the power of affirmation and celebration.  We also cover how to create a system and culture of affirmation and celebration.
